Must see--El Yunque North

1. Left and below. On your way up HY 191, stop and see the Yokahu tower. It looks like the castle of a chess piece that some giant set in the jungle. Take the walk up the circular stairs and photograph the area. On a clear day you can see The Virgin Islands.

2. Below. LaCoca fall (on right adjacent to 191). Large parking area just past fall on left. Johnny, the kid in the background, is not a two-foot midget--he is a standard size male adult. He just looks small in the photo because of the immense height of the fall. If you're in good shape, don't miss the hiking trail just past it on the left. Most tourists miss this trail.

3. Walk Big Tree Trail. It's on the left as you drive up HY 191, just below the ranger station. It terminates at the ranger station and goes past La Mina fall. You can also park at the ranger station and walk down the trail.

4. La Mina fall (this is where you swim) at the Palo Colorado Ranger station. It is on the Big Tree hiking trail. Sadly, it no longer has the volume of water you see in this 10 year old photo--now it is more like a large bathtub.

At Palo Colorado you can hike up to Mt. Britton for a spectacular view from the tower.
