Whale watching in Rincon/surfing/diving

Researchers and tourists come to hear the whales

In Puerto Rico, most of the action occurs on the corners of the island. On the north/west corner is Rincon--meaning corner or niche. It is here that if you come between January and March you can see and hear male humpback whales traveling along the coast singing their songs hours on end. Bring some binoculars--but they do have some telescopes at the lighthouse at Rincon. They migrate from New England, Newfoundland, and Iceland.

Approaching Desecheo Island for an afternoon dive.

Surfing is done around Rincon (northwest coast) between November and March. It is a very popular surfing destination.  The best diving is on the west coast at Desecheo and Mona Islands—visibility is always around 100 feet plus.  I normally dive with Taino Divers at Rincon: 787-823-8429.
