Jungle Hiking

It's always a good idea to know the best things to have when you go hiking. Or things you might need when you get back.

Walking stick. This can be anything from a piece of bamboo to a monopod. But having a hiking or walking stick will keep you from falling on a muddy trail, aids you going downhill, and makes hiking easier especially if you have bad knees or ankles.

First aid cream. Take it with you.

Insect repellent. Take it with you.

Anti-itch cream. Take it with you. Just in case you touch an ortiga bush (stinging nettle).

Listerine (not the sweet stuff)--pour over anything that itches when you get back.

Super lightweight rain poncho ($2 at Wal Mart). Only if you don't like getting rained on. After all, you are in a rain forest. However, some people feel cheated if they don't get rained on.

Hat to keep the sun or rain off. Optional.

Sunscreen, only if you are fair skinned and only if you might be in the sun for extended periods.

Camera to record the moment.

Baggie to put camera in. In case it rains.

Bathing suit or shorts to swim in if the opportunity presents itself.

Do not touch. The needles will sting you.
